Association Continuing To Work On Important Industry Issues

by Meghan Brown

Over the past month the Nevada Cattlemen’s Association has been working hard to promote sound management and responsible multiple use. NCA leadership has been attending meetings, sending comments, and working with legislators to make sure that Nevada’s voice remains strong. We are currently working on speakers and topics for convention. If there is something that you would like to see, learn, or participate in during convention please contact the office. We look to you for input and this is your opportunity.

What has NCA Done For you:

  • NCA sent a letter in support of Representative Nunes amendments to the Antiquities Act, intended to limit and bring transparency to Presidential national monument designations.
  • NCA sent letters to the individual BLM districts in support of the Silver King, Montezuma Peak and Paymaster, Reveille, and Moriah horse gathers.
  • NCA sent a letter to our congressional delegation in support of the Murkowski resolution of disapproval of the greenhouse gas (GHG) endangerment finding put out by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) last December.
  • NCA sent a letter of support of H.R. 5475 Family Farm Estate Tax Relief Act of 2010.
  • President Ron Cerri and Past President John Falen traveled to Denver Colorado to participate in the National Wild Horse and Burro Advisory Board meeting and public forum regarding Secretary Salazar’s management goals and objectives.
  • NCA Board of Directors met in Yerington for their summer meeting.
  • NCA staff Meghan Brown participated in the Department of Agriculture Board of Directors Meeting.
  • Several members of NCA sat down with Nevada Department of Environmental Protection to discuss pesticides and CAFO regulations.
  • President Elect JJ Goicoechea participated in the USDA APHIS meeting regarding animal disease traceability.
  • President Ron Cerri and Second Vice President Jon Griggs are part of the search committee to hire a Livestock Extension Specialist for the Cooperative Extension.
  • NCA President Elect JJ Goicoechea traveled on YCC and represented our issues back in Washington DC. He met with members of Congress and the federal land management agencies including the BLM leaders to discuss wild horse issues.
  • Members from the Western Region of the state created a Western Committee to address the unique issues that face producers in that area. They will meet three times a year to discuss issues, create policy, inform members regarding topics and issues that affect them, and help the association become more affective in their ability to address the issues across the state.

If you are interested in learning more about what was mentioned, or any of the other thing that the officer team is working on, or the staff at NCA please free to contact the office at 1-775-738-9214 or nca@nevadabeef.org
