The Association at Work:
Legislation, Events, Scholarship, & By-Laws
by Meghan Brown
The Nevada Cattlemen’s Association continues to work hard every day for the livestock producers in the state. Each day we face new challenges and problems as the world we operate in changes. The volunteer leaders of the association have been speaking, traveling, and voicing their opinions about actions that could affect your operation. With proposed legislation affecting wild horse management, water, energy costs, animal health, and food safety our eyes and ears need to be keen to make sure that all legislators know how these pieces of legislation could affect our industry.
If you have questions about any of the proposed legislation please contact the office at 1-775-738-9214 or the internet is also a good tool. I suggest these two web pages: http://www.govtrack.us/ or http://thomas.loc.gov/bss/d111query.html. These two pages offer good information regarding legislation and links to committees, members, and related legislation. Also you can learn how to direct your comments to members of congress that are on the committees or leaders of caucuses. This information will allow you to direct your comments to the decision makers in Washington.

The Nevada Cattlemen’s Association would like to congratulate Lydia Knight of Lovelock, Nevada for receiving this year’s scholarship. Lydia is planning on attending Brigham Young University – Idaho and majoring in Plant Science. This year there were several well qualified applicants for the scholarship. However, Lydia stood out from the crowd with an excellent essay and recommendations.
We look forward to her continued involvement in the association and industry. Best of luck with your freshman year of university.
The Guild family and the Nevada Cattlemen’s Association proudly present a $1000 scholarship each year to a graduation senior from a Nevada high school.

The Nevada Cattlemen’s Association is continuing to work to make sure the association is up to date and effective for our members. Every couple of years the association needs to look at the by-laws and make sure they are meeting the needs of the members and the officers of the association. The proposed changes to the by-laws can be found on the NCA web page www.nevadacattlemen.org or you can call the office with any questions 1-775-738-9214.
